Leadership

Proverbs 22:6

Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.

Clinton United Methodist Church Leadership

Clinton United Methodist Church is blessed to have a leadership team who are truly dedicated to Christ and accomplishing His will. Following are brief bio's of our leadership team and their qualifications for ministry.

Rev. Abel Roy

Pastor

Rev. Abel Roy has been the Mohawk District Superintendent for the last eight years.  Prior to that he served Springville First UMC for four years, East Randolph United Methodist Church for fifteen years, Huxley and Cambridge United Methodist Churches in the Iowa Annual Conference, for nine years.  He attended Bible College in Pasadena, California, and received his bachelor’s degree from Iowa Wesleyan College, in Iowa.  He is a graduate of Asbury Seminary in Wilmore Kentucky, where he received his master’s in divinity in 1986, and Master of Theology (Th.M. in Missiology) in 1989.  He was ordained as an elder in 1990.

His call as a pastor is to equip laity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to serve their neighbors.  He embraces Personal Holiness and Social Holiness as the foundation of his ministry to live the great commandment, as well as the great commission.

Abel and Rebecca were married in 1991, and have two daughters, Abigail (25) who will be attending Physician’s Assistant School at Ithaca College and Priscilla (19) who is presently attending Rochester Institute of Technology.  They also had a son Jesse, who was born in November of 2001, and went to be with the Lord the same day.  Rebecca is currently a Teacher Assistant at Perry Junior High School in the New Hartford Central School district.  She was a Computer Programmer/Analyst for 12 years, and later a stay-at-home mom when the children were little.  Abel and Rebecca were born in Sri-Lanka, formerly known as Ceylon.  They moved to Western New York from Iowa, to be close to their families who live in Toronto, Canada, and Long Island, NY.

Rev. Abel and Rebecca are excited to be part of the Clinton UMC to serve the church and community. They are looking forward to meeting everyone and getting to know each of you in the days and months to come.   “And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.”  (Colossians 3:15)

Carol Klausner

Christian Education / VBS

Mrs. Carol Klausner is our Coordinator of Christian Education. She has been a member of Clinton United Methodist Church since 1982, and has been involved in Christian Education since joining the church. A long time resident of Clinton, Carol and her husband, Mark, have two sons, Matthew and Andrew, two daughters-in-law, Abby and Meghan, and four grandchildren, Willie, Amos, Finley and Hadley.

Carol has been the moving force behind our Christian Education program, first as a volunteer and then as a member of our staff, for more than 30 years. She, along with her team of dedicated volunteers, are committed “to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world” through their ministry of weekly Sunday School classes for all ages (toddlers to teens) and special events held throughout the year (Youth Sunday, Vacation Bible School and our annual Christmas Pageant). But as much as she loves being in the classroom and planning these special events, her true passion might be delivering the weekly Children’s Sermons to the children. Each week she coordinates with Pastor Michael to share a bible story, biblical message or truth, sometimes including current events and other times with a bit of humor.  Carol truly feels blessed to be able to share God’s love through the many educational ministries of Clinton United Methodist Church.
