Super Bowl LIX is scheduled to be played on February 9, 2025, at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. But on the Saturday before the big game, the youth here at CUMC will be making soup to support the national event, The Souper Bowl of Caring. What is so impressive about this initiative to feed our hungry neighbors is that it was the brainstorm of a group of teens watching the Super Bowl more than 35 years ago! Check out their website: tacklehunger.org for the full story.

Here’s how it works at CUMC: we make the soup(s) with donated ingredients and you buy the soup(s) after worship on Super Bowl Sunday. You will also have the opportunity to “vote” for your favorite team by placing $$ in the soup pots that the kids will be holding as you leave the Sanctuary. Donations will be tallied during coffee fellowship time and the “winning” team will be announced. Then the proceeds from both the soup sale and the team challenge will be donated to local agencies that feed our hungry neighbors. That's right, all the money stays local and the kids get to decide who we share it with! Here’s the bottom line. The big winners aren’t the teams playing in the Super Bowl or even the halftime show and its fans. They’re the lessons we teach our kids about how we care for our neighbors and those hungry neighbors that we will feed.
